Precautions

Fire

Eliminate all sources of ignition from the work and storage areas.

This includes prohibiting smoking and naked flames. Any fires must be treated as petrol fires and suitable extinguishers must be used.

Spillage

The wet paint must not be wasted into drains or watercourses. Contain any spills using sand or earth, collect (using shovel) and place in a seal able metal container. Seal the container and arrange for safe disposal (using a reputable waste disposal company). Keep all sources of ignition away.

Storage

The storage requirements depend on the number of tubes which are kept. But in general, if a large number are stored, the following points apply:

• The storage site should be approved by the local authority
   
• Storage buildings should be constructed from non-flammable materials, e.g. concrete or bricks
   
• Fire extinguishers of a suitable type should be provided
   
• The storage temperature should be kept below 50 deg Celsius
